I was reviewing a new client’s Medicare Part D prescription plan today as I do for all my clients. Since this was a new client, it was my first time reviewing his particular plan in combination with his medications. I had good news and bad news for this client. The good news was that his new plan premium for 2024 was going to be $3.70 per month and he was going to be paying about $16 each month in total between drug costs and premiums. The bad news? He has paid about $140 per month between premiums and drug costs in 2023! I can’t be certain, but I would bet that he has been wasting over $1000 a year for the last 4 years on the plan he had. The client couldn’t believe it. He said he’ll be certain to check back with me every year in November to make sure he has the best plan available in his area.
This client will be saving over $1400 in 2024. While not everyone will be saving that much, any savings will be helpful these days.
Be sure to have your Part D Prescription Drug plan reviewed each year between October 15th and December 7th to see if you could be saving money on premiums or drug costs.
